Unique Museum copy of Virgin Vladimir.A Byzantian icon (1131 A.D.) from Constantinople. It portrays the iconographic type of the Virgin of Mercy (Eleoussa) and is characterized by the sad and serious countenance of the Virgin who envisages the impending drama. She holds tenderly the child Jesus, who is embracing her. The icon is painted in egg tempera on wood and is found in the Tretiakov Glalery in Moscow.
