The Orthodox Church has been celebrating since the 4th century on December 4 (November 21) the holiday of the Introduction of Holy Virgin Mary to the Temple, which became the second, spiritual birthday of the Virgin.
After three years of her life in her parents home, Mary was brought by Iachim and Anna, who thus fulfilled their pledge, to the Temple of Jerusalem. Zacharias, the high priest (who later became father of John the Baptist) feeling the high predestination of the girl, led her to the sacred place of the Temple.
