It follows the iconographic type of the Virgin of Mercy (Eleoussa) which is characterized by the melancholic and serious countenance of Virgin who envisages the impending tragedy. She holds tenderly the child Jesus who is embracing her. The icon is framed by the Holy Napkin, Angels, St. John the Baptist, various Prohets, male and female Saints.The painting is in egg tempera on wood.
